On Wednesday evening June 8, some 200 people gathered in Vonnas, at the invitation of Georges Blanc, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Maison Blanc. Among the family members, friends or elected officials present were, for example, chef Marc Veyrat, Bresse poultry farmers Jean-Michel Sibelle and Cyril Degluaire, members of the CIVB, François Belay or Christophe Greffet, departmental councilor of the Canton of Vonnas.
If a few days ago, the three-starred chef confided that he intended not to write a speech, contrary to what his father had done before him for the 100th anniversary of the establishment, Georges Blanc nevertheless pronounced some words. He evoked the creation of the inn by his great-grandfather, lemonade maker in the summer, coal merchant in the winter, as well as his career in Vonnas, which began in 1964, at the age of 21, taking the relay of three generations. “I have been here for more than fifty years. I was the 4e generation and there are still three generations of white people behind who may one day be able to carry on the tradition. It’s a great adventure, which I lived with a lot of passion. We do a good job, that’s why I continue, as long as I have the strength. A professional life is long, so when you can flourish in the profession you have chosen, you go through life more happily. Jean Deguerry, president of the departmental council, took the opportunity to present Georges Blanc with the Department’s gold medal.
