Lucie Carrasco has still not recovered from her trip between Lyon airport and Turkey.

When she arrives on the plane on May 2, 2022 at Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport for a flight to Turkey from Turkish Airlines, Lucie Carrasco finds herself faced with seats that are unsuitable for her disability.

“I had reserved two seats adapted to my chair for me and my carer”, testifies the 40-year-old Lyonnaise who now lives in Valence (Drôme). “When I got to the seats, they weren’t there. The company told me that the plane was not the right one and had been changed the same morning”, she testified toNews Lyon after recounting his bad experience on Instagram.

“I have a plane to take off, I don’t care”

“It’s not my problem ! I have a plane to take off, I don’t care”: these are the words received by Lucie from the staff when she tries to explain that she is not able to settle on this type of seat.

It is at this moment that the “trauma” begins for the forties and the carer who accompanies her. “The Turkish Airlines agent was threatening, he insulted me saying that ‘someone like me shouldn’t travel, that my disability was scary'”.

“It’s not the first time it’s happened to me unfortunately, but not so violently and that’s why I won’t let go! An altercation at this point, it was surreal, ”continues stylist Lucie Carrasco.

Fired from the plane: “I was treated like a dog”

Lucie claims to have been unceremoniously removed from the plane under the impassive gaze of the other passengers and the rest of the flight attendants.

According to her, an agent from the airline very violently pulled her out of the plane. She assures that the agent who took her out of the plane was very violent and aggressive and would have hit an obstacle with the chair.

I still have pain. I can’t sleep at night, it hurts so much. I already have a disease painful enough not to suffer more

Lucie Carrasco

She got hit with seven days of ITT (total interruption of work) after consulting a doctoraccording to a medical report consulted by News Lyon.

While she was unable to leave Lyon to reach Turkey, she assures us “that we waited 9 hours for someone to pick us up, they refused to call us a taxi with a ramp and we were not not even offered a bottle of water. We were left like dogs, I was treated like a dog and again…”, laments Lucie Carrasco.

“I want to be fully reimbursed”

The unhappy passenger claims that the airline called her in English. “I was sent an email explaining that the agent in question will be reprimanded and that I have been reimbursed for the tickets and the seats,” she said. But she also wants her hotel and taxi costs already booked in Istanbul, where she was unable to go, to be reimbursed.

Lyon airport would have called the forties to apologize and promise an internal investigation.

Lyon-Saint-Exupery Airport’s response

Asked by Actu Lyon, the airport management replied to the passenger:

“Lucie Carrasco, a disabled passenger with reduced mobility who was to travel to Istanbul on a Turkish Airlines flight, said that she suffered inconvenience when departing from Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport on Monday May 2.

The airport deeply regrets the feelings of this passenger, the quality of service provided to all passengers being a priority for Lyon airport and all of its partners.

The airport spoke with the passenger upon receipt of her contact details. This constructive interview went very well. We are not aware of a complaint filed to date, however, the airport is conducting an investigation with its partners to reconstruct Lucie Carrasco’s journey and take the measures that may prove necessary.

A complaint filed, the “unsuitable police station”

Lucia says to News Lyon having filed a pre-complaint online against Lyon airport and the airline agent it accuses.

“I was unable to drop her off at my police station, which is not suitable for wheelchairs. An agent will come and collect the complaint from me…”, also deplores the Lyonnaise.

She also wrote to Emmanuel Macron’s chief of staff at the Élysée and hopes for an improvement in the situation of people with disabilities in airports. Lucie Carrasco had questioned the president during the 2022 presidential campaign on the tray of France news.

Turkish Airlines did not wish to communicate on the subject.
