Do 5G Smartphones Give off Too Many Dangerous Waves?

5G smartphones do not transmit to the human body a wave level higher than the regulations. The Frequency Agencies have issued their first assessment on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 following the specific absorption rate (SAR) check on the first 5G smartphones.

The SAR control measures the energy carried by electromagnetic waves and absorbed by the human body when using the device. The thresholds are set at 2 W/kg for the trunk and 4 W/Kg for the limbs. The tests were performed directly on forty-six cell phones, including 13 5G smartphones..

5G has a very low emission of dangerous waves

The first checks carried out as part of the market surveillance show that the additional contribution of 5G is very low and only appears when the 4G and 5G antennas in the phone are co-located.

Effectively, the current 5G in the 3.5 GHz band requires the simultaneous use of the 4G network and the 5G network. The average increase is 0.4% for SAR measured on the trunk and 1.8% for that measured on the limbs.

Only two smartphones have exceeded the authorized thresholds and have already been the subject of a communication during the implementation of software updates by their manufacturers.

This concerns the EssentielB HeYou 40 and 60, whose software update should reduce the power of the phone and lower the level of wave emission.

To reassure on the 5G, WHO had advised in October 2020 to double the controls of exposure to electromagnetic waves made on smartphones and cell phone antennas.

In detail, controls must increase from 70 smartphones controlled in 2019 to 140 in 2021. The organization must also strengthen the control of cell phone antennas.
